On February 24, 2023, Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), visited the Italian Pavilion at ExpoDoha 2023.

The purpose of his visit was to learn about the innovative agricultural technologies developed by Italy, which are pivotal in combating desertification and promoting sustainable land use.

Upon arrival, Mr. Thiaw was warmly welcomed by the Italian Trade Agency Commissioner, Paola Lisi, who provided a comprehensive overview of the technologies showcased in the pavilion. The technologies on display included state-of-the-art irrigation systems, vertical agriculture techniques, and sustainable farming practices.

As a gesture of gratitude for Mr. Thiaw’s visite, the Italian Trade Agency Commissioner presented him with a small piece of Italian soil, symbolizing the importance of preserving and nurturing our planet’s natural resources. This gesture was highly appreciated by Mr. Thiaw, who emphasized the significance of international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges.
